The Dog As A Nurse

The dog as a nurse

His name is Champi and he likes to be a nurse. The downside is that it is a dog. When he realized that his owner, an 89-year-old man, was being taken to the Reina Sofía hospital in Murcia, he made the decision to accompany his old protector to the hospital, where, as it was logical to think, they would not let him enter..

But the animal did not leave, and wanted to stand guard at the door and wait for its owner to be discharged. There he has been, almost without moving, two days and nights, to the astonishment of passers-by and health personnel, and there he would remain faithful if the employees of the municipal kennel had not warned his master’s children to take him to his floor, near the hospital.

His name, Champi, is a diminutive of Champion. As for its breed, it is a cross between a German shepherd and a stray dog. Although his latest action at the hospital door has transcended more, the reality is that it is not the first time he has done it. Also a few months ago, due to a stone in his owner’s kidney, he spent time at the door of the center. Now he has repeated it.

The animal has won the sympathy of all, and it has not lacked water, food and affection during all the time it has been standing guard in the street. It has been twelve years since it was adopted to serve as therapy for the wife of its current owner, an old woman who was in the terminal phase of an illness. As we can see, the vocation of a nurse has come to Champi for a long time.

Social support for the nursing dog

Despite the fact that the municipal kennel does not want Champi to be at the door of the hospital and more since he has become famous, many people come to the place to meet this little dog and give him food and affection. However, Champi is not an abandoned animal and Sergio, the owner’s son, often went down to the street to see how the pet was doing and so that it did not lack food.

Such was the commotion of people approaching to be photographed with Champi, that technicians from the municipal kennel went to the door of the hospital and reported that the animal could not stay there or, otherwise, they would have to take it away by force.

The reactions began and many people opposed Champi being transferred to the kennel. Sergio has had to bring the dog home. Friends of the family assure that the animal “is not used to being alone, because it always went everywhere with them.” In addition, they maintain that “the poor dog does not stop barking because what he wants is to be waiting for his owner in the hospital.”

The forums and networking sites are filled with comments on the history of Champi, especially since it has been forced to leave the door of the hospital. “How disgusting people, the street is free and it is not an abandoned animal. They should have made an exception and left the dog in the owner’s room while he recovers, ”says Vanesa Marín, while Paqui Sánchez says:“ So many dogs go without an owner on the street and they don’t pick them up… and the one that is waiting for their owner bothers them, what nonsense. They better take care of the abandoned ones and let poor Champi watch his owner leave ”.

“They are bothered by this dog that waits for his owner at the hospital door, but they are not bothered by those who are dirty, smelly and without eating lying in the streets. I feel ashamed of others ”, says Mari Trini Rocamora on Facebook. Amparo Hernández adds that “if I were admitted to the hospital as the owner of Champi and they let my 2 dogs come up to see me, I think I would get cured just to see that they need me. Please let this poor animal see its owner, which will surely be very beneficial for both of us. “

What bothers is to see how animals love to the end and are capable of waiting years for someone, something that human beings lack … that’s why it bothers them, because seeing it there gives them something to think about and not knowing about it. those feelings screw them up, ”says Noelia Ortiz. Lorena Jiménez makes the following comment: “A person is forced to lock up his dog because he waits for his owner at the door of a hospital (when the animal can even be therapeutic for his owner), but before those who abuse, they mistreat and they abandon animals they do nothing … Let’s continue like this, to see who has the most animal behavior ”.

Unfortunately, Champi will no longer be able to meet his beloved owner, as the man has passed away and his story will not have a happy ending. But his journey will continue with Sergio.
