Differences Between French Bulldog And English Bulldog

Main differences between French bulldog and English bulldog
Bulldogs originated in England and until the 19th century they were used in fights against very strong animals, including bulls. The popularity of the English bulldog has been somewhat overshadowed by its French version, which was created after the British traveled to the continent taking their pets with them.

1. Size
It is without a doubt one of the main characteristics that they do not share. While the English bulldog weighs about 30 kilos and is around 50 centimeters tall, the French does not exceed 15 kilos and 30 centimeters. However, both have a robust appearance and a strong body.
2. Ears
This is another of the great differences between English bulldog and French bulldog. The first has ears according to its head, which ‘look’ down and to the sides. In the case of the second, they are very large, they are always upright and protrude a lot from its head. That is why it is known as the ‘bat dog’.
3. Head and face
Although both are brachycephalic, that is, they have a flattened snout, there are some interesting differences with respect to the head of each breed. That of the French bulldog is more proportionate in relation to the body and that of the English, in addition to being square and huge, presents its famous ‘folds’ that reach down to the double chin.
4. Character
English bulldogs are very calm, and they do not like much exercise or effort. French bulldogs, on the other hand, are usually quite restless and playful, as long as it is not too hot, they suffer too much (in that both breeds are the same).
5. Obedience
Since French is more nervous than English, it is also more difficult to train him. This characteristic of the breed makes it one of the least obedient that exists, even if you start teaching from a puppy.
6. Special care
The French bulldog needs their ears to be always clean, since due to their size and shape it is normal for them to accumulate dirt. As for the English bulldog, its main problem lies in the folds of the face, which can store moisture and bacteria that cause infections, fungi and bad odor.
7. Health
It is essential that all dogs receive veterinary care and are vaccinated accordingly, but also that they are treated according to the specific pathologies or problems of their breeds.
The differences between English bulldog and French bulldog at this point are quite opposite, although both can suffer from respiratory problems. The former is in slightly more precarious health: he suffers from stomach problems, and in several cases seizures, and is also more prone to heat stroke. The second, on the other hand, is usually healthier.
8. Home adaptation
The English bulldog is chosen mainly by those people who live in a house, since it is larger. French, on the other hand, is selected by families or couples who live in an apartment in the city, due to its small size. What you may not know is that the exercise requirement is higher in the second case, and therefore you should have more outdoor space.
9. Food
Finally, another of the differences between the English bulldog and the French bulldog has to do with their diet, precisely because of the amount they consume on a daily basis.
The former is very prone to obesity, because he loves to eat and not exercise. When this happens, it increases the chances of bone damage or heart disease. The French, for his part, does not usually gorge himself on food and ‘maintains’ his figure.
