The Heroic Cat Who Saved An Abandoned Baby

The world is upside down, currently as we see the planet unravel in the midst of wars, pollution and predation, John Lenon’s phrase “ I have seen so much bestiality in humans and so much humanity in beasts that I am not sure of the meaning of these words ”, it seems that it makes more and more sense.

In 2014 a cat became famous for saving a child from a dog attack, we also learned the story of Rosco, a labrador who saved a 4-year-old boy from being burned to death during a fire at his residence in Mexico. The most recent of these cases occurred in January, when the world learned the story of Masha, the heroic cat who saved an abandoned baby.

This story takes place in Russia, in the city of Obninsk, close to the capital of Moscow. Russia is a country known worldwide for having some of the hardest, coldest and longest winters. Therefore, it is incomprehensible how a person leaves a baby a few months old abandoned in the open  in a box near a garbage can. The story would have ended in tragedy if it had not been for the incredible way of acting of Masha, a stray cat who slept in the box where they had abandoned the baby.

Masha lived outside the apartment complex where the baby was abandoned, according to residents the cat had lived in the stairwell for three years and was fed by some of them, although none were in charge of its complete protection.

The night the baby was abandoned,   the cat proceeded to sit on him, providing warmth and protecting him from the early morning cold. She also began to meow loudly to get the attention of the neighbors, until Irna Lavora, who lived in one of the apartments and used to feed the cat, became concerned about her unusual behavior. He went looking for her thinking that she had been injured and found the baby. What surprised the woman the most is that the cat seemed to be concerned about the well-being of the child, she covered him with her body and licked him.

Fortunately, the woman was a nurse and was able to help the child, who was beginning to show symptoms of hypothermia. The woman could see that the baby was not in bad condition, he had clean clothes, and beside him they had left a bag with food and diapers, they had also left some blankets.

The incredible instinct of the cat made her continue to supervise the baby even when the paramedics arrived, once the baby was transferred to an ambulance, Masha tried to get on it to continue caring for the baby. According to the doctors’ opinion, the baby would not have had a chance to survive the cold had it not been for the protection and warmth that the cat provided.

Despite receiving treatment to prevent some type of complication, the baby was in good health. Police are still searching for the parents, who could face criminal charges.

As soon as this news was known, it went viral through social networks, causing thousands of people to be moved, not only by the fate of the unfortunate baby, but also by the courage and maternal instinct of Masha, who has not stopped Receive accolades and has become the darling of the city.

Currently all the residents of the building in front of which Masha lived, as well as many other members of the Obninsk community, reward her heroism with displays of affection, games and lots of food, curiously being she, in her capacity as a street, who rescued and adopted to a human child.

This story shows us that people still have a lot to learn from animals, because with their completely disinterested actions they teach us the true sense of compassion. Curiously, in history there have been many cases like this, children abandoned by their parents who end up being raised by animals such as dogs, wolves, apes, among many others. Let’s hope that this simple but moving story helps us to act a little more disinterestedly and look around us.
