A dog is saved at the last minute from euthanasia. Know how!

When a pet comes home for the first time, it quickly gets used to us and vice versa, it becomes part of the family, it is one more. For those who love animals, they can think of nothing more painful than having to avoid the suffering of their friend by causing death. Therefore, this news of a Collie dog that was saved from euthanasia at the last minute is a story we want to tell you.

One of those miracles that rarely happen, but are true. We tell you the story of Ollie, a sheepdog. How did you get to euthanasia? And better yet, how did you save yourself from it?

Ollie, the dog who was euthanized

Ollie is ten years old and lives in Portland, United States, along with his owners: Al and Joelie Meteney

Like all dogs, Ollie was cheerful and loved to go to the park, run and play with his masters, and jump around. He loved excursions as his owners always took him with them. Anyway, in short, Ollie was a normal and happy dog, very happy.

One day like any other, its owners packed some things in the car and Ollie watched them waiting for a call. When he heard his name… yes, we’re going on a hike! They went to Oregon, a beautiful place where nature is the main protagonist, an area that Ollie loved.

After the excursion

Despite how much Ollie and his family enjoyed, returning home the nightmare began. Suddenly the dog began to lose mobility. At first they might have looked stiff from the long walk, but the animal was very fit and that was not a possibility.

At first it was a bit difficult for him to walk, but little by little it became difficult for him to eat, each day he walked with more difficulty and each time he ate less and with more effort. Their owners believed that it was better not to delay and go to the doctor as soon as possible.

They did urine and blood tests as well as other tests, and the results were frustrating. Nothing came out in them, but Ollie’s health was going from bad to worse. There came a time when he stopped feeding because he could no longer move and was not even able to go to the bathroom.

When the Meteneys returned to the vet, it was clear to him: he had to be euthanized. Ollie was suffering a lot and his family too, it was the best.

The family remembers it as heartbreaking news and they were totally heartbroken, but it was for the best of all.

Ollie’s owners, resigned, went to the clinic trying to assimilate that they were not going to see their little one again. All medical equipment was ready. The outlook was sad, the family was crying and the nurses couldn’t resist when they saw them.

Just before euthanasia, one of the nurses was kissing Ollie goodbye when she noticed something strange behind the animal’s ear: a lump.

They began to look at him carefully and there were some spots of blood around him, it was a tick! The bloodstains showed that the parasite had long been lodged in Ollie’s body, feeding on his blood and damaging his nervous system.

Doctors offered the family a new solution: they would remove the tick and give the animal three days to see if it recovered. Although not common, ticks can cause paralysis in the animal and veterinarians did not want to overlook this fact. And thank goodness! Ollie didn’t need three days. After removing the tick, he rested for a few hours and was able to return home at night.

His recovery was complete that same day, he was already jumping and as always, scratching the door to go out to pee. He narrowly escaped euthanasia!

Ask for complete tests and checks on your animal when it is sick. This does not have to be an isolated case and you may be able to save your pet’s life.
