There are many exotic birds, so making a list of all of them would take us years. However, we wanted to bring you at least one representation of this peculiar group and thus bring you closer to the fascinating world of birds.
Bird from paradise
This is undoubtedly one of the best known exotic birds. It is a medium-sized bird and comes from New Guinea. Its colors, which vary from blue to red, together with another mixture of colors, make it one of the most beautiful in nature.
Males are even more beautiful than females, as only they have long tail feathers. It is a bird that likes solitude, so it will have a partner only when it wants to mate. A very characteristic detail is that he loves to do stunts.
Azulito from Senegal
As its name says, it comes from Africa and can measure up to 11 centimeters. As a general rule, its colors are blue with brown with a pink beak. Males and females are easily differentiated by a red spot on the cheek that they have and they do not.
Interestingly, it is the males that have the most attractive and striking colors, while the females go unnoticed in this regard. Is it a strategy of nature to woo the female for mating? Who knows!
Hummingbird
You may never have thought of this famous bird as part of an exotic bird list, but yes, it is part of it.
This small bird has the characteristic of having an oversized tail compared to its body. The same is true of its long beak, with an extremely long tube-shaped tongue. Both are essential to get their food.
And, without a doubt, as we all know, the highlight of this little animal is the movement of its wings, which can move between 80 and 200 times per second, something that helps it stay in the air while feeding.
Gouldian Finch
This is perhaps one of the most striking birds on the list of exotic birds for its mixture of colors perfectly “painted” in its plumage. Seeing one of these copies does not go unnoticed by anyone.
It can measure up to 12 centimeters and, like the Senegalese blue, the male has more vivid colors, being able to mix up to six, while the females go more unnoticed in that aspect.
Regarding the colors, they may vary. For example, the head could be yellow, red or black, while the chest could have shades such as blue or purple. However, the neck will always be bright turquoise and the belly yellow. Don’t you think it is a gift from nature?
Mandarin diamond
This bird is very peculiar, because it is very friendly despite the reputation of independent birds. Small in size, they do not usually exceed 10 centimeters. This beautiful specimen comes from Australia.
To differentiate the male from the female, we just have to see that the male will have orange cheeks, while the female will not. The colors they present are shades of gray mixed with white and some black spots. Their legs and orange beak combine perfectly with this mix.
Ruficauda Diamond
This beautiful bird from Australia has a good character and is very sociable, not only with other birds, but also with the humans around it. It is adaptable as long as the place where it is is warm and without drafts.
Its size is approximately 12 centimeters and its colors are gray-yellow with a reddish beak. The latter is what helps to differentiate males and females, since males have almost their entire face the same color as the beak, while females do not.
